President of Azerbaijan praises OIC's effective regional and international role

His Excellency Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, on 4 June 2012 received the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, whi was on an official visit to the Azerbaijan from 4 -5 June 2012. During the meeting, the President praised the effective role of the OIC in the regional and international arena, underscoring particularly the important achievements of the recent years in joint Islamic action. His Excellency the president also emphasized the determination of the Republic of Azerbaijan to continue to support the activities and initiatives of the OIC. For his part, the Secretary General expressed his appreciation for the continuous support the OIC receives from the Republic of Azerbaijan, and expressed the OIC's willingness to continue to coordinate and cooperate with the Azerbaijan in all that would bring good to Muslim States and their peoples. Prof. Ihsanoglu reiterated OIC's unequivocally support to the Republic of Azerbaijan on the issue of occupied Nagorno-Karabakh. In the same day Secretary General, met with H. E. Elmar Mammadyarov, minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan. They expressed optimism about the current positive level between the OIC General Secretariat and the Republic of Azerbaijan and made consolations on the bilateral, regional and international matters. The Secretary General also met with H. E. Oktay Asadov, the speaker of the National Assembly (Parliament), and both of them reviewed support for and advancement of Parliamentary work.
