ACMOI Convenes 7th Annual Meeting at OIC Headquarters to Reflect on 2023 and Shape 2024

Date: 17/01/2024

The 7th Annual Coordination Meeting of the OIC Institutions (ACMOI) began today 17th January, 2024, at the OIC Headquarters, Jeddah, bringing together delegates from OIC Institutions.

Dr. Ahmad Kawesa Sengendo, Assistant Secretary-General for Economic Affairs, opened the session highlighting the dual focus of the meeting: reflecting on what has been accomplished in 2023 and charting the way forward for ACMOI's activities in 2024.

Dr. Sengendo pointed out that 2023 was a tragic year for many OIC Member States. He noted that the year saw devastating natural disasters in Türkiye, Morocco and Libya, and the ongoing horrible Israeli war in the Gaza Strip, among others. The Assistant Secretary-General for Economic Affairs explained that the burden of such developments constitutes an additional daunting challenge to the socio-economic development of the OIC countries.

He asserted that such situations also require from the OIC and its institutions to further increase their activities and programs that are aimed at assisting the OIC Member States in achieving sustained economic growth and development.

On the other hand, Dr. Sengendo pointed to 2023's positive developments, including the launch of the OIC Labour Centre in Baku, the newest specialized institution of the OIC dealing with labour and employment issues in the Member Countries. Additionally, the Islamic Forum for Halal Accreditation Bodies in Riyadh, gained affiliated status, strengthening the OIC's role in halal standardization.

Furthermore, King Faisal University in Chad also joined the ranks of OIC Affiliated Institutions in 2023, highlighting the organization's commitment to education and development.
