The Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) celebrated its 32nd Graduation Ceremony with grandeur at its main campus in Mbale, Eastern Uganda. The colorful event was graced by dignitaries including Her Excellency Major Jessica Alupo, Vice President of the Republic of Uganda, His Excellency Prof. Mohammed Al-Tabtabaea, Chairman of the Islamic University in Uganda Governing Council, as well as the presence of the Second Deputy Prime Minister, Rt. Honourable Retired General Moses Ali, and Third Deputy Prime Minister, Rt. Honorable Mr. Lukia Nakadama. The OIC General Secretariat was represented by Mr. Abdunur M. Sekindi, Director General of the Science & Technology Department.
In his speech read by the Vice President, H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of Uganda commended the OIC for its unwavering support for higher education in Uganda and the wider region of Africa.
A total of 2573 graduates, proficient in diverse disciplines, were conferred with certificates, diplomas, bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD degrees during the ceremony. Additionally, in recognition of exceptional service and significant contributions to humanity, the University nominated and the Council approved two distinguished personalities for the Honorary Doctorate award.
Rt. Hon. General (Rtd) Moses Ali, the Second Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda, was conferred with a Doctor of Laws, Honoris Causa. His Excellency Mr. Ibrahim Abdallah Al-Khuzayem, the outgoing Executive Director of the Islamic Solidarity Fund, was awarded a Doctor of Letters, Honoris Causa. Their remarkable contributions to both humanity at large and specifically to the advancement of the Islamic University in Uganda were acknowledged through these honors.
The recognition of Mr. Al-Khuzayem's exemplary services toward humanity and his pivotal role in the progress of IUIU holds immense significance. It stands as an extension of appreciation for the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and its commitment to promoting higher education. The Islamic Solidarity Fund is revered as the humanitarian and charitable arm of the OIC, exemplifying their collective dedication to societal welfare.
