OIC Welcomes and Supports the Initiative of the UN Secretary-General in the Security Council

The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha, welcomed the call of the Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), Mr. Antonio Guterres, for the UN Security Council to declare a humanitarian ceasefire to avoid a humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip, in accordance with Article 99 of the UN Charter. The OIC Secretary-General deemed this initiative as a significant and necessary step to activate the role and responsibility of the United Nations institutions, especially the UN Security Council, towards stopping the continuing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.
