His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, President of the Republic of Maldives received His Excellency Amb. Yousef AlDobeay, Assistant Secretary-General of Political Affairs of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, in an audience on Sunday, 19 November 2023, in the capital city of Malé.
The Assistant Secretary-General congratulated President Muizzu on his assumption of office as the President of the Republic of Maldives and conveyed greetings and well wishes from OIC Secretary-General, His Excellency Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha. During the meeting, the Assistant Secretary-General delivered a letter addressed to His Excellency the President from the Secretary-General.
While welcoming the visit of the Assistant Secretary-General to attend the Presidential Inauguration ceremony on behalf of the OIC Secretary-General, the President expressed the commitment of the Government of Maldives to the principles and ideals outlined in the OIC Charter.
The President and the Assistant Secretary-General praised the quality of the relations between the OIC and the Maldives and expressed the willingness to further strengthen bilateral cooperation. They also discussed the Israeli aggression against Gaza, the humanitarian plight of the Palestinian people as well as the long-term impacts of the war on Gaza on peace and security in the region and the world.
During his visit to the Maldives, the Assistant Secretary-General was accompanied by Amb. Ahmed Sareer, Director of Asian Affairs at the OIC General Secretariat.
