His Excellency the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha, met with Her Excellency Ms. Amina J. Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, on Sunday, 5th November 2023, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat in Jeddah.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed the dangerous situation in Gaza and the repercussions of the ongoing Israeli attacks on the humanitarian conditions of the Palestinian people and on peace and security in the region and the world. They also addressed joint efforts related to Afghanistan, as well as combating Islamophobia and incidents of desecration of the Holy Qur’an in some European countries.
The two sides stressed the importance of the International Conference on Women in Islam, which is hosted by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, on 6-8 November 2023 in Jeddah. They valued the existing cooperation between the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the United Nations regarding these issues and expressed their intention to further strengthen it and intensify consultations stressing the need to hold them periodically.
