The Special Envoy of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to Jammu and Kashmir, Mr. Yousef Aldobeay, visited Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir on October 10-14, 2023, to assess the human rights and humanitarian situation in the region. This visit was conducted based on the resolutions of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) and the action plan adopted regarding Jammu and Kashmir. The Special Envoy had previously visited the region and submitted reports to the CFM.
During his three-day visit, the Special Envoy visited the Line of Control and met with those affected by the cross-border bombings. He also visited the Tota refugee camp and held talks with His Excellency the President and the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
During his meetings, the Special Envoy expressed the OIC's permanent solidarity and support for the legitimate struggle of the Kashmiri people to exercise their inalienable right to self-determination, as stipulated in the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions. The Special Envoy also met with His Excellency the Prime Minister and Minister of the Foreign Ministry of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in Islamabad and discussed the relevant issues with members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
The purpose of the Special Envoy's visit was to reaffirm the OIC's support for the just struggle of the Kashmiri people for their inalienable right to self-determination, as per the CFM resolutions on this issue. He also expressed his intention to submit a report during the Islamic Summit in The Gambia on developments in the situation.
His Excellency the Prime Minister of Pakistan welcomed the Special Envoy and stressed that the OIC's firm and principled position on the issue of Jammu and Kashmir, as the collective voice of the Islamic Ummah, has always been a source of strength for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
