His Excellency the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha, participated on September 18, 2023, on the sidelines of his participation in the meetings of the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, in the meeting on peace efforts in the Middle East called for by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and held in cooperation with Jordan, Egypt, the Arab League, and the European Union.
During the meeting, the Secretary-General emphasized that the OIC supports the strategic choice of achieving peace in the Middle East region. He also stated that for this peace to be just, lasting, and comprehensive, the Palestinian people must obtain their legitimate rights, including establishing their independent state on the June 4, 1967, borders with East Al-Quds as its capital. The Secretary-General further noted that these rights are based on international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
The Secretary-General emphasized that the alarming repercussions of not attaining peace and stability should prompt all involved parties of the global community to increase their efforts and intensify their work to take advantage of this momentous opportunity. He also urged everyone to engage in a responsible manner by providing multilateral international support for a political process that will end this long-standing conflict.
