Nigerian President Receives OIC Secretary-General In New York

His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu received in audience in New York on Monday, 18 September 2023 His Excellency Hissein Brahim Taha, Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. Accompanied by senior OIC officials, the Secretary-General congratulated the Nigerian President on his assumption of office as both the President of Nigeria and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) at a time when Africa is in need of visionary leaders to address the political and developmental challenges in the continent.

While welcoming the Secretary-General and commending the role of OIC in the socio-economic transformation of its member states, President Tinubu expressed his readiness to support the efforts of OIC and its specialized institutions, such the IsDB, towards the development of physical and human infrastructures, including increased cooperation on agriculture and food security in OIC member states.

The Nigerian President also expressed Nigeria's readiness to participate actively in the OIC summit to be held in Banjul, Gambia in December 2023 as well as the Council of Foreign Ministers scheduled for Yaounde, Cameroon in 2024.
