H.E. the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha, called on the OIC Member States, their relevant humanitarian institutions, and all international partners to provide urgent humanitarian assistance to Libya and contribute to the rescue efforts undertaken by the Libyan authorities following the unprecedented powerful hurricane that struck several cities in Libya, leaving thousands of victims, thousands of injured and missing people, and huge property losses as a result of torrential rains and floods that submerged parts of the country.
The Secretary-General commended the efforts exerted by the Libyan authorities to contain this disaster, rescue the affected population, provide them with support, and mitigate the consequences of the hurricane. He reiterated his heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the Libyan people and his solidarity with the families of the victims and the missing. He prayed to Allah the Almighty to bestow His mercy on the victims who died and to grant the wounded a speedy recovery.
