OIC General Secretariat Welcomes Exchange of Prisoners Operation in Yemen

The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) welcomed the commencement of the exchange of prisoners between the Yemeni Government and the Houthis.

The OIC Secretary-General, Mr Hissein Brahim Taha, hailed this important humanitarian operation taking place in these blessed days of Ramadan, which is capable of kindling hope among the prisoners and detainees returning to their families, in particular, and among the Yemeni people, in general.

He praise the efforts of the United Nations special envoy, Hans Grundberg, and the International Committee of the Red Cross in this operation, as well as the mediation roles played by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Sultanate of Oman.

The Secretary-General expressed the hope that the exchange of prisoners and detainees exercise will give new impetus to the peace efforts in Yemen.
