OIC Secretary-General Meets Muslim World League Secretary-General

H.E. the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha, and his accompanying delegation, met on Sunday, 8/1/1 2023, H.E. Sheikh Dr. Muhammad bin Abdul Karim Al-Issa, Secretary-General of the Muslim World League (MWL), at the MWL headquarters in Makkah Al-Mukarramah.
The meeting discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the OIC and the MWL in light of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two institutions in 2020.
The OIC Secretary-General commended the great and appreciated efforts undertaken by Sheikh Dr. Al-Issa, especially with regard to clarifying the truth of Islam and its tolerant moderate teachings, promoting friendship among peoples, spreading dialogue, supporting charitable and humanitarian work, and achieving social justice.
Mr. Taha highlighted the historical Makkah Al-Mukarramah Document, issued by more than 1,200 Muslim scholars in 2019. The document underlined the divine honoring of humanity with its diverse cultures and races, the rejection of racism and arrogance, the pursuit of civilized dialogue and peaceful coexistence, and the rejection of fanaticism, extremism, incitement to hatred, clash of civilizations, and combating terrorism and the phenomenon of Islamophobia, and empowering people with education and development.
On the other hand, the two sides reviewed the humanitarian situation in the Islamic world. They looked forward for greater cooperation, especially with regard to the deteriorating humanitarian situation in many Member States and Muslim communities and societies around the world. They also stressed the need for more cooperation efforts in the field of combating terrorism from which several OIC Member States suffer, rejecting extremism and combating Islamophobia.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary-General of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy (IIFA), Dr. Qutb Sano, the Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian, Social and Cultural Affairs, Ambassador Tariq Ali Bakheet, the Director-General of Cabinet and Senior Advisor to the Secretary-General, Dr. Mahamat Adoum Koulbou, and the Advisor to the Secretary-General for Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Abdullah Bakhit.
