During his participation in the forum on Food Security and Human Conflicts/Diplomacy: A Changing Human Scene, held today, Thursday, December 1, 2022 at King Saud University in Riyadh, the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Hissein Brahim Taha, stated that many of the countries affected by the global food crisis are OIC Members. He pointed out that the OIC adopted immediate and urgent medium and long-term measures to assist affected Member States in confronting this and other humanitarian crises, through coordination with donor Member States, Islamic finance institutions and international partners.
In his intervention, the Secretary-General reviewed the humanitarian challenges in OIC countries, especially in the Horn of Africa, the Sahel region, the Lake Chad basin countries and Afghanistan. He also highlighted the efforts made by the OIC to channel urgent humanitarian assistance.
Furthermore, Mr. Taha stressed the need for international cooperation to face humanitarian challenges, in a message to those affected by humanitarian crises in the world, that the international humanitarian community will be by their side and will do its best to help them and alleviate their suffering.
