Secretary-General Receives Bayt Mal Al-Quds Ash-Shareef Agency Delegation

Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Mr Hissein Brahim Taha, received at the General Secretariat Mr Mohamed Salem Sahrqawi, Acting Director of the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Ash-Shareef Agency. They both discussed means of cooperation to expand the Agency’s efforts in supporting the City of Al-Quds and boosting the resilience of its inhabitants.

During the meeting, His Excellency the Secretary General praised the efforts of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, to defend the City of Al-Quds Ash-Shareef and serve the Palestinian cause. He pointed out the importance of the role played by the Agency, which is the financial arm of the OIC Al-Quds Committee, underscoring the need to follow up implementation of the resolutions calling on Member States to support the Agency’s budget and programmes. The Secretary-General assured of the General Secretariat’s commitment to cooperate in facilitating the Agency’s tasks, mobilizing greater financial resources and technical expertise to assist with execution of projects in the City of Al-Quds Ash-Shareef. He also talked about the importance of invitation to the meetings of the OIC in order to highlight the Agency’s work, review its projects in Al-Quds and encourage member States to offer the necessary support in accordance with the rules and regulations governing its work.

For his part, the Acting Director gave an overview of the difficult social and economic conditions in Al-Quds resulting from the illegal measures of the Israeli occupation. This is in the light of the latest reports issued by the Agency, based on the studies conducted by the Agency’s Rabat Observatory.
