The Assistant Secretary General for Humanitarian, Social and Cultural Affairs of the OIC, H.E. Ambassador Tarig Ali Bakheet, delivered a speech at the opening session and made a presentation in Day 1 of the Online Training Program on “Humanitarian Diplomacy” organized by SESRIC in collaboration with the Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum (ICYF) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey, on 24 October 2022.
The Training Program is designed for Junior Diplomats from OIC Member States.
In his speech at the opening session, delivered on behalf of H.E the Secretary General of the OIC, the ASG for Humanitarian Affairs commended SESRIC’s longstanding commitment in helping OIC Member States to further build capacities of their diplomats and civil servants in emerging areas of knowledge. He also praised the collaboration between SESRIC, ICYF and the Government of Turkiye through this valuable training program which is an edifying instance of intra-OIC cooperation.
In his lecture on the Training’s subject, after reviewing humanitarian diplomacy’s definition, challenges and opportunities, Ambassador Tarig made an informative and comprehensive presentation of the OIC’s approach to humanitarian diplomacy.
Touching on the importance of humanitarian diplomacy in international affairs at a time when multifaceted crises are growing with their adverse impacts on vulnerable people, he advocated a better incorporation of humanitarian diplomacy into foreign policies of OIC Member States.
He reiterated the readiness of the OIC to always support such initiatives from SESRIC and all its organs and institutions to the benefit of the Member States.
