OIC Secretary-General Urges the International Community to Support the Rights of Palestinian Refugees

Date: 22/09/2022

His Excellency the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), H. E. Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha, participated on September 22, 2022, in the International Conference on Supporting Palestinian Refugees, held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, on the sidelines of the 77th session of the General Assembly.

In his statement, the Secretary-General pointed out that millions of Palestinian refugees have suffered for decades from evictions, injustice and denial of their legitimate rights as a result of the continued Israeli colonial occupation. He underlined that UNRWA was under-funded. In this regard, the Secretary-General called on the international community to assume its responsibilities towards alleviating the suffering of Palestinian refugees and finding a just and lasting solution for their cause in line with international resolutions, especially Resolution 194 of the General Assembly.

Furthermore, the Secretary-General urged UN Member States to act decisively for the renewal of UNRWA's mandate by the UN General Assembly, during its current session.
