The first round of the Strategic Dialogue between the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the United States of America (US), which was held at the headquarters of the US Department of State, concluded in Washington DC on 24 May 2022.
The discussions on the final day of the OIC-US strategic dialogue included topics of common interest, notably combating Islamophobia and hate speech, the conditions of Muslim communities and minorities in non-OIC Member States, religious freedoms, freedom of expression, gender equality, women’s empowerment, and issues of Human rights, in addition to cooperation between the two sides in combating the Coronavirus pandemic, food security challenges, and climate issues.
The two sides agreed to follow up on what was agreed upon in this round and to move forward with holding other rounds of OIC-US strategic dialogue as the first round yielded fruitful and encouraging results towards strengthening cooperation between the two sides in order to face common challenges.
Senior officials of the US Department of State, a number of the OIC assistant secretaries-general, the Secretary-General of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy (IIFA) and the advisor to the President of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) participated in the first round of the OIC-US strategic dialogue.
