H.E. Colonel Assimi Goita, President of the Transition, Head of State of Mali, received on 10 May 2022, in Bamako, Professor Nassirou BAKO-ARIFARI, Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) for Africa, who is on a mission to the West African sub-region.
During this meeting, the Special Envoy conveyed to President Assimi Goita, a message from the Secretary-General of the OIC, H.E. Mr. Hissein Brahim TAHA. The Special Envoy underlined the essential role of Mali in the stability and security of the Sahel and the West African Economic Community (ECOWAS). Prof. Nassirou seized the opportunity to discuss the transition in Mali and to brief the President of the Transition on the outcome of his mission to the West African sub-region in a view to contributing to the stabilisation efforts in Mali.
Earlier, the Special Envoy of the OIC Secretary General met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Mali, H.E. Mr. Abdoulaye Diop, to discuss the relations between the OIC and Mali as well as the socio-political and security situation in Mali and the ways and means of OIC support, particularly in the humanitarian field.
