As part of a working visit performed in Ankara, on 17-18 February 2022, by an Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) General Secretariat’s delegation headed by H.E. Ambassador Tarig Ali Bakheet, Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian, Social and Cultural Affairs, a bilateral Cooperation Framework Agreement was signed between the OIC and the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority of the Republic of Turkey (AFAD), on 17 February 2022, at the AFAD Headquarters.
The Framework Cooperation Agreement covers important issues ranging from capacity building in Disaster Management to experience-sharing and humanitarian assistance to OIC Member States affected by conflicts and natural disasters.
In his statement, the OIC Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs praised the strong commitment of AFAD and emphasized on the importance of mobilizing all the relevant Agencies from Member States to support the OIC in its mission of coordinating and providing humanitarian assistance to the needy OIC Member States.
The signing ceremony was preceded by comprehensive presentations from both sides on their respective activities and ambitions towards OIC Member States facing humanitarian challenges.
Within the framework of the visit, the OIC Assistant Secretary-General and the accompanying delegation also held important meetings with senior officials in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey, the President of the Turkish International Cooperation Agency (TIKA) and the President of the Turkish Red Crescent (Kizilay).
