The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) expresses its deep concern about the high levels of violence in Afghanistan and strongly condemns the recent attacks against civilians across the country. It reiterates the OIC’s principled and firm stance against all forms and manifestations of terrorism.
The OIC Secretary General, Dr. Yousef A. Al-Othaimeen, expresses his sincere condolences to the families of the victims and the government and people of Afghanistan, wishing the wounded speedy recovery.
The General Secretariat calls for an immediate ceasefire and reiterates OIC’s commitment to supporting an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned inclusive peace and reconciliation process towards reaching a political solution, and ensuring that the process is backed by regional actors and supported by the international community.
The General Secretariat recalls relevant resolutions on Afghanistan adopted by OIC Summit and Council of Foreign Ministers meetings as well as the Makkah Declaration issued on 11 July 2018, by the International Ulama Conference on Peace and Stability in Afghanistan.
The General Secretariat reiterates the OIC’s solidarity with the people of Afghanistan and support for their hopes and expectations for peace, security, stability and development.
