Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Dr. Yousef Bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen, affirmed that OIC would spare no effort in supporting the journey of International Islamic Fiqh Academy (IIFA).
The Secretary General, in his speech during the first session of the Board of the Academy, convened virtually on 24 December 2020, urged all member states to support the academy in highlighting its efforts to promote moderation and coexistence, confronting terrorism and extremism, and working to reach a bridging position in thorny jurisprudential issues, in a way that enhances the unity of Muslim Ummah.
Al-Othaimeen pointed out that, raising of some jurisprudential issues to utilize them in favor of some intellectual and political agendas, will serve no one but the enemies of Ummah, and will further contribute to the growth of terrorism and extremism, which requires a unified position by Scholars of the Ummah. In this regard, The IIFA is representing, one of the basic pillars, relied upon to formulate viable approaches to handle thorny issues, in line with culture of the moment, without abandoning the principles and purposes of Sharia.
Secretary General added that the OIC General Secretariat considers IIFA one of its most important institutions, due to the important tasks it carry out toward serving Muslims and guiding their jurisprudential and intellectual approaches in all sectors and fields.
