At the 14h Summit Preparatory Meeting: Al Othaimain Cautions Against Terrorism and Extremism and Demands End to Palestinian Ordeal

The OIC foreign ministers meeting, preparatory to the 14th ordinary session of the Islamic Summit conference convened in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, on Wednesday 29 May 2019, under the chairmanship of Dr. Ibrahim Ibn Abdulaziz Al Assaf, Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs.

H.E Dr. Yousef Al Othaimain Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) delivered an opening address to the meeting in which he expressed full appreciation and gratitude to the Custodian of the two Holy Mosques, King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and to Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, for the Kingdom’s hosting of the Islamic Summit Conference and its preparatory meetings and for the consistent support and well-appreciated generous support extended for the benefit of Islamic causes. The Secretary General also extended his profound thanks to the Republic of Turkey for its successful chairmanship of the 13th Islamic Summit.

The Secretary General stated that the long-standing cause of Palestine unduly protracted due to the Israeli occupation’s policies and persistence in flouting the resolutions of the intentional legitimacy, calls for increased coordination of efforts and further concertation in order to evolve a unified international stand to press for the concretization of the international will to achieve peace and put an end to the occupation and to the Palestinian people’s suffering.

Dr. Al Othaimain stated that the OIC is keeping a close watch and following with deep interest the files relevant to a number of states, in addition to its following of the events endured by the people of Jamu and Kashmir, the developments in the province of Nagorno Karabakh, the sufferings of the Rohynga, the situation of the Muslim peoples in Turkic Cypus, Bosnia, Kosovo and other parts of the world.

The Secretary General went on to affirm that extremism and terrorism continue to be the most serious threat to peace and stability in the Islamic world and globally as well, particularly as they seek to undermine international cohesion and to impede the Member States’ development and deplete their energies and resources.
