The OIC Group at UNESCO and the OIC Liaison Office to UNESCO have celebrated the OIC Day to mark the 49thAnniversary of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation with the attendance of UNESCO Director General Ms. Audrey Azoulay.
As a part of the OIC Day celebration, the OIC at UNESCO and the OIC Liaison office to UNESCO organized a roundtable on “Intercultural dialogue as a tool for the prevention of violent extremism and conflicts: Best practices among OIC Member States in the promotion of intercultural dialogue”, held on 28 September 2018 at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.
Panelists from OIC Member States explored the use of intercultural dialogue as a soft power tool to lay the foundations of peaceful coexistence, tolerance and mutual understanding. Practical examples and best practices from Iraq, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan were discussed to highlight the importance of building bridges and trust among civilizations for sustainable peace and International security.
The OIC, UNESCO and the OIC-Youth Forum gave an overview of their respective actions and programs on the use of intercultural dialogue to address the pull and push factors of violent extremism.
The roundtable was followed by a reception showcasing the unique and rich culinary heritage of OIC Member States.
