OIC Secretary General Warns against Serious Repercussions of Transferring the US Embassy to Al-Quds

Date: 12/01/2017

The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Dr. Yousef A. Al-Othaimeen expressed grave concern over news reports on the intention of US President-elect Donald Trump to transfer the US Embassy to the occupied city of Al-Quds, considering that such a move contradicts the principles of international law and UN Security Council resolutions, particularly resolution 478 which calls on states having opened their diplomatic missions in Al-Quds to withdraw these missions from the city.

The Secretary General stated that the city of Al-Quds is part of the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, consistent with international legitimacy resolutions, the last of which being the UNSC resolution 2334 adopted in December 2016, which calls upon all states to distinguish, in their relevant dealings, between the territory of the State of Israel and the territories occupied since 1967, including the city of Al-Quds.

The Secretary General reaffirmed the OIC’s rejection of any measure or attempt that could cause prejudice to the legal status of the occupied city of Al-Quds, calling on the US Administration to refrain from this illegal move and warning against its serious repercussions at all levels.
