OIC Delegation Visits The Gambia to Discuss Preparations for Next Islamic Summit

A delegation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) headed by Ambassador Tariq Bakheet, Director General of Political Affairs, conveyed to H.E. The Vice President of the Republic of The Gambia the compliments of the OIC Secretary General, H.E. Dr. Yousef A. Al-Othaimeen, and expressed the OIC General Secretariat’s determination to support the Republic of The Gambia in its preparations leading to the next Islamic Summit.

This was during a meeting by an OIC General Secretariat delegation in Banjul, Republic of The Gambia, on 14 February 2018 with the Vice President of the Republic of The Gambia H.E. Mrs. Fatoumata Jallow-Tambajang as part of the preparations for the 14th Session of the Islamic Summit Conference to be hosted by the Republic of The Gambia in 2019.

The Vice President expressed her country’s gratitude for having been selected to host the summit and briefed the delegation on efforts being made by The Gambia to host a successful summit.

Over the course of 2 days the OIC delegation conducted site visits to facilities that are being put in place for the summit, including the International Conference Centre under construction. Following the site visits, the delegation was invited to brief members of the Gambian Cabinet at their meeting held on 15 February 2018.

The Islamic summit is the highest policy making body of the OIC and meets once every three years.
