OIC delegation meets Somali Foreign Minister

The high-level delegation of the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which is on an official visit to Somalia, met with H.E. Abshir Omar Jama Huruse, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia, in his office at the headquarters of the Somali Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the capital, Mogadishu, today, Sunday, 26 February 2023.

During this meeting, Mr. Yousef Aldobeay, the Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs, stressed the utmost importance that Somalia enjoys in the OIC political and humanitarian agenda. He also affirmed respect for the sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity of Somalia, and indicated the OIC commitment to stand by the Somali people and continue to provide support to the Government of Somalia to help it face all the challenges ahead, praising its efforts in combating terrorism and achieving stability and development.

Aldobeay affirmed that the Council of Foreign Ministers will adopt, at its next session in Nouakchott, a resolution that will enhance the OIC’s efforts in supporting Somalia in various fields.

On the other hand, the Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Ambassador Tarig Ali Bakheet, affirmed the OIC’s commitment to continuing its efforts in strengthening bilateral cooperation relations with Somalia, especially the implementation of many humanitarian and development projects through the OIC’s office in Mogadishu, in coordination with the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRelief).

For his part, the Minister thanked the delegation and praised the OIC’s appreciated and continuous efforts for decades for Somalia, especially in the political and humanitarian aspect, with the aim of achieving stability, combating terrorism, and providing humanitarian and development support.
