The executive council of the Islamic Solidarity Fund (ISF), issued from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) convened yesterday 15th January 2020, in Jeddah, in its 46th session which started with a statement delivered by H.E. the OIC Secretary General, Dr. Yousef Al Othaimeen, who laid emphasis on the importance of the ISF’s actions and valuable assistance and relief for humanitarian projects. Al Othaimeen also stressed the need to further develop the ISF’s work through the diversification of its fields and sectors and also through diversifying the pool of states benefiting from its services, along with the need to help projects move gradually towards future self-help through revenues issuing from waqfs and self-financing plans.
The Secretary General further noted that there is still a dire need for the Member States to set up waqf projects for the Fund, be they private or public, to finance the ISF activities. He called on Member States to contribute financially to the ISF, each according to their capacities. Also, he extended profound thanks and gratitude to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its generous donation of 9 million US$ to the ISF, in addition to its consistent support, along with the UAE, in favour of the ISF’s resources and waqf. He also expressed thanks to all other Member States for their support to the ISF.
On his part the ISF Permanent Council’s chairman, Amb. Nasr Bin Abdullah Al Zuabi, expressed appreciation for the Secretary General’s support and nurturance extended to the ISF, as well as thanks to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its consistent back-up for the Fund’s efforts.
It is worth noting that the number of projects executed by the ISF since its establishment and up to 2018 has reached 2775 to the tune of 236 million US dollars which have benefited of 135 states around the world.
