OIC Secretary General Receives Yemen Foreign Minister

The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Dr. Yousef Bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen, received on 12 September 2018, in his office at the General Secretariat in Jeddah, H.E. Dr. Khalid Al Yamani, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Yemen, whom he invited to consult on developments in Yemen and exchange viewpoints thereon.

During the meeting, the OIC Secretary General affirmed the Organization’s support for Yemen’s unity and territorial integrity and for Yemen’s legitimate leadership. Al-Othaimeen expressed the OIC’s readiness to cooperate with the United Nations on Yemen through the extension of consultancy to the UN envoy and through participation in the UN meetings to add to them the Islamic perspective.

The Secretary General reviewed with his guest the humanitarian role played by the OIC within its coordinated action with King Salman Centre for Relief and Humanitarian Action and the various international organizations such as to contribute to lift the Yemeni people’s sufferings brought upon them by the Houthi coup militia.

In his turn, the Yemeni Foreign Minister, paid tribute to the OIC for its role in supporting the Yemeni people in all spheres and more particularly in the area of humanitarian relief and assistance, which will be forever remembered and appreciated by the Yemeni people. He further expressed his own appreciation for the role played by the OIC Secretary General personally as a participant in most regional and international events on Yemen, particularly within the OIC Contact Group meeting on Yemen. The Foreign Minister underlined the importance of qualitative coordination for the upcoming meeting, scheduled for the end of the current month in New York, on the margin of the UN General Assembly’s annual gathering.

At the meeting’s conclusion, the two parties highlighted again the importance of continued and close coordination in view of the positive impact this may have towards a peaceful resolution to the Yemeni crisis, within the framework of the three references: the Gulf States’ initiative with its executive mechanism, the results of the comprehensive national dialogue, and the relevant UN Security Council’s resolutions.
