RESOLUTION NO. 1/9-ORG (IS)

ON CONVENING A FORUM FOR DIALOGUE BETWEEN THE OIC AND THE OCSE

 

The Ninth Session of the Islamic Summit Conference, Session of Peace and Development “Al Aqsa Intifada”, held in Doha, State of Qatar from 16 to 17 Sha’ban 1421H (12-13 November 2000),

 

Realizing a necessity of promotion of peace and security for all peoples as one of the major conditions for sustainable development and prosperity of entire mankind;

 

Being convinced that the expansion of economic, cultural and humanitarian contacts between the peoples and civilizations will contribute to the process of strengthening of mutual understanding and mutual respect;

 

Recognizing the right of all peoples to live in peaceful and safe environment;

 

Noting that the provisions and ideas of the Kyrgyzstan Foreign Policy Doctrine “Diplomacy of the Silk Road” aimed at further promotion of mutually beneficial cooperation, development and tolerance are assonant to the hopes and expectations of all peoples;

 

Welcomes the initiative of the Kyrgyz Republic on convening a Forum for Dialogue between the OIC and the OSCE on peace, security and sustainable development designed to consolidate peace and security and promote the development of the Euro-Asian continent and in the word as well;

 

1.Decides to establish Special Working Group on consideration and discussion of all aspects of convening the above mentioned forum for dialogue between the OIC and the OSCE;

 

2.Appeals to the OSCE attentively consider this initiative of the Kyrgyz Republic and to start consultations on the matter;

 

3.Requests the Secretary General to follow up the developments in this respect and submit a report thereon to the Tenth Session of the Islamic Summit Conference.

 

 

RESOLUTION NO. 2/9-ORG (IS)

ON SUPPORTING THE CANDIDATURE OF THE ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF PAKISTAN TO THE SECURITY COUNCIL FOR THE TERM 2003-2004

 

The Ninth Islamic Summit Conference, Session of Peace and Development “Al-Aqsa Intifada”, held in Doha, Qatar, from 16-17 Shaban, 1421H (12-13 November 2000),

 

Recalling the resolutions of the Second Islamic Summit Conference held in Lahore, Islamic Republic of Pakistan, in 1974, calling on all member States to harmonize their positions in the United Nations and in international for a;

 

Having been informed of the decision of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to submit its candidature to the position of non-permanent member of the UN Security Council;

 

Recalling the objectives of Islamic solidarity as laid out in the OIC Charter,

 

1.Supports the candidature of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan as a non-permanent member in the UN Security Council for the Asian seat for the term 2003-2004, and calls on OIC Member States and UN Member States to support this candidature which will be examined during the 57th UN General Assembly Session to be held in New York in September-December 2002.

 

 

RESOLUTION No. 3/9-ORG (IS)

ON SYRIA’S CANDIDACY FOR A NON-PERMANENT SEAT AT THE SECURITY COUNCIL FOR THE PERIOD FROM 2002 TO 2003

 

The Ninth Islamic Summit Conference, Session of Peace and Development “Al-Aqsa Intifada”, meeting in Doha, State of Qatar, from 16-17 Shabaan 1421H (corresponding to 12-13 November 2000),

 

Taking into consideration the importance placed by Islamic countries on being represented by an Islamic country at the Security Council;

 

Taking note of the decision of the Syrian Arab Republic to stand for the non-permanent seat in the Security Council reserved for the Asian group for the two-year period from 2002 to 2003;

 

Taking note of the resolution of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the League of Arab States No. 4503/AS, 84/L2 of 11 September 1985 supporting Syria’s candidacy;

 

And Taking note of the resolution adopted by the Asian group at its meeting in New York on 23 October 2000 in support of Syria’s candidacy;

 

1.Decides to support the candidacy of the Syrian Arab Republic for a non-permanent seat at the Security Council for the period from 2002 to 2003, in the elections to be conducted during the fifty sixth session of the UNGA in the Autumn of 2001.

 

2.Calls on Member States to make the necessary contacts to urge other states to support this candidacy.

 

3.Requests the OIC Secretary-General to follow up the implementation of this resolution.

 

RESOLUTION NO. 4/9-ORG (IS)

ON THE ESTABLISHFMENT OF LIAISON BETWEEN THE OIC AND D8

 

The Ninth Session of the Islamic Summit Conference, Session of Peace and Development “Al Aqsa Intifada”, held in Doha, State of Qatar from 16-17 Shabaan 1321H (12-13 November 2000),

 

Having considered Resolution No. 2/27-ORG on cooperation between the OIC and International and regional organizations;

 

Aware of the establishment, in 1997, of a group of 8 developing countries, each of whom also being a member of the OIC, with the express purpose of furthering economic and commercial cooperation among them, and calling themselves “D-8”;

 

Also aware that among these eight countries namely, Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Turkey, are some of the most populous countries of the OIC;

 

Recognizing the commonalities in the outlook and approach of the OIC and the D8, and the potential for mutually rewarding cooperation between the two groups;

 

Reiterating the need for establishing a cooperative relationship which would further enhance the solidarity of the member States of the two bodies and serve the welfare of the peoples of member States, and emphasizing the need for coordinated utilization of available resources to promote the common objectives of the two bodies;

 

Taking note of the desire of the D-8 Group for cooperation with the OIC and the IDB:

 

Decides as follows:

 

1.Calls on the Secretary General to establish and reinforce cooperation and coordination with the D-8 with the objective of realizing mutual benefit and for helping advance the objectives of the member States and the Islamic world at large.

 

2. Authorizes the Secretary General to hold discussions with the Executive Director of D-8 to work out a memorandum of understanding for cooperation between the OIC and D-8.

 

3.Recommends that various organs/entities of the OIC cooperate with the D-8 group in areas of shared interest.

 

4.Requests the Secretary General to follow-up the implementation of this resolution and to submit a report thereon every three years, commencing in 2003.

 

 

RESOLUTION NO.5/9-ORG (IS)

ON SUPPORTING THE CANDIDATURE OF THE STATE OF QATAR

TO THE MEMBERSHIP OF INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS

 

The Ninth Session of the Islamic Summit Conference, Session of Peace and Development “Al-Aqsa Intifada”, held in Doha, State of Qatar from 16 to 17 Shaban  1421H (12-13 November 2000),

 

Taking into consideration the importance of the presence of Member States in international fora,

 

Reaffirming the necessity of coordination among Member States;

 

1. Supports the candidature of the State of Qatar to the Membership of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in the elections which will be held during the Fifty-sixth (56th) Session of the UN General Assembly.

 

2. Supports also the candidature of:

 

-Dr. Ali Bin Fatees Al-Mari to the membership of the International Law Committee, the election of which will take place during the Fifty-sixth Session of the UN General Assembly.

 

-Dr. Ghalia Bint Mohammad Bin Hamad Al-Thani to the membership of Children Rights Committee, the elections of which will be held in February 2001.
