The OIC Cultural Week in Indonesia, organised in partnership between the General Secretariat and the Government of Indonesia came to an end on Thursday July 13, 2023.
A big ceremony was organised to mark the closing of a full week of interesting activities which varied from official meetings with governmental authorities (Minister of Youth and Sports), local authorities in East Kalimantan, Samarinda and Balikpapan, to meetings with religious representatives in Mosques, Cathedrals and Bhuddist Monastries reflecting the tolerant version of Islam in Indonesia and the cohabitation values prevailing among followers of different faiths in the country.
The representative of the Indonesian government, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, thanked the OIC General Secretariat for choosing Indonesia to host the Cultural week and expressed the desire of his government to keep the dynamic of mutual cooperation going after this great event with a view to strengthening collaboration and joint action between OIC member States and institutions.
On his turn, the Director of Cultural affairs Dr Lhoucine Rhazoui expressed the thanks and gratitude of the General Secretariat to the government of Indonesia for the excellent organisation of the event and the huge efforts vested to make this cultural week a true story of success and a model of constructive joint action.
He highlighted that the signing of 12 MOUs between OIC instituions and universities, namely IRCICA, the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) The Islamic University of Technology (IUT) in Dhaka, Bangladesh and the International Islamic University in Malaysia (IIUM), the ICYF and their counterparts in Indonesia including the Muhammadiya organization, the biggest organization in the country embracing thousands of schools and tens of universities, is a further indicator of the successful holding of this cultural week.
On Thursday 13 July, a visit was organized to the site of the new capital city of Indonesia, NUSANTARA, for the delegation of the OIC member States to see the progress made in the realization of this huge and impressive project.
The two parties agreed that the organization of this event should be seen as a way to open new perspectives of cooperation between all members of the larger OIC family in the future and that the multiplication of such events in other Member States would definitely contribute to fostering the bonds of friendship, solidarity and collaboration within the OIC.
